beehive-telescoping-lid
Beehive telescoping lid

These telescoping lids will keep your beehive top closed to pests and predators and the 3/4 inch thickness will help moderate internal hive temperatures. Available for 8- or 10-frame hives and combined with an optional inner cover, these durable tops will provide years of service.

WE DO NOT USE OR INSTALL METAL TOPS ON OUR LIDS! I have never liked them as they make regulating hive temperatures more difficult. In addition, moisture collects between the sheet metal and the wood (due to condensation) and that speeds up deterioration of the wooden top. Also, lots of little insect critters like to live there. It also can make regulating temperature more difficult.

My recommendation is to use several coats of paint on these, making sure all the gaps in the plywood edge are sealed by paint to prevent delamination. That's all you need. And then, place a 1- or 2-inch piece of insulating foam over the top and leave it there all year, weighed down with a brick or a stone. You can buy it at your local big-box hardware store or you can buy it from me, already cut and sized.

The photo is for illustrative purposes - the hives are not included... and price is per lid... ;)
