Kitsap Beekeeping Supply started back at the end of 2015 with an idea that our Olympic Peninsula region needed a reliable source for custom built hives. Not wanting to build what everyone else was building, we talked to a lot of beekeepers and looked at designs from Layens and Top Bar to Slovenian AZ hives. Soon, our fledgling business evolved to the point that we formed an LLC and a real company!
We are not an Etsy or hobbyist shop - we are a full-fledged production facility with plans to open retail locations and expand as the business expands. We have customers up and down the west coast who refer to us a lot of business and we take on as much as we can handle.
Let me speak personally here (yes, I'm the guy with the blue beard): I am committed to you and committed to your success. Yes, I need to make money but what I really REALLY need is happy, satisfied customers who will speak highly of my services, leave great reviews and drive more business my way. I'm told once or twice a week how much we are appreciated in this market now that several other big players have retired, downsized or outright closed. I aim to continue the great traditions upheld by Stedman's and others who have gone before.
We are small, but growing. Yes, our prices are a bit on the high end in some areas but that likely bothers me more than you as I work to grow this business to get better deals from suppliers. I can't do it without you. Every order, every kind word, every referral, every positive review helps more than you know. I'm always a text away if you have beekeeping questions, whether you are a customer, or not.

Our Values
- Customer service: Just about every company ranks this as a high priority and we are no different with that. Where we are different is that we do not do anything that does not align with this benchmark. If you are not happy, I am not happy. It can literally keep me up at night.
- Education: Our highest priority! The more you know, the more you succeed. The more you succeed, the longer you will be a customer and the more inclined you will be to help spread your satisfaction to others in the community. We do not want you to purchase equipment and not know how to use it. Additionally, we choose one or two fledgling beekeepers a year to mentor and help with purchasing supplies. We offer free in-shop consulations (by appointment). We help out in beekeeping emergency situations when we can.
- Community: When you shop with us, your money stays local. We have kids to put through school, just as you do. We have roofs that fail, cars that break down and stressful, unanticipated problems. We pay someone to fix them, just as you pay us to provide with what you need to maintain viable, sustainable hives. We all enrich one another. What goes around comes around - unless you choose to give your money to a corporate entity that blows up rockets or sends celebrities into space. It's your money, your decision. This community matters. We matter. You matter. Thank you for your business!
What you must know
I have a day job. I'm a software developer for the state of Washington. In the past, I did this for the news media, then for the health care industry, then as a contractor for the Federal government and now for the state government. Nearing retirement now, I started this business with the idea that it would grow slowly and by the time I retire in 2029, it would hopefully be something that I could do in retirement. Imagine my surprise when this venture just took off in unimaginable ways and I had to bring in part-time help and even volunteers who pitch in because we all believe in this! Because of that, we do not have a public retail location ... yet. That will come once I retire (the sooner the better) and I can devote my time and energies to that expansion. This is why we kindly request that shop visits, product pickup, etc. are scheduled so that I can work around that pesky day job thing. Please bear with me until the day comes that I can be more readily available. I get up at about 2:30 every morning to take care of this business, then do my day job, and then get back to the bee business until after sundown. Every day, 15 hours on weekends, holidays and days off. I'm fully committed to this and to you. I'm counting down the days until retirement.
Oh, one last thing you should probably know about me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE CATS! It was either start a beekeeping supply business or a cat shelter. My wife made that decision for me. "We already have too many cats," she is fond of saying. And that, in the long and short of it, is how you came to have a local beekeeping supply company on the Olympic Peninsula.
Now that makes me wonder ... just how many cat is too many cats?
