The Ultimate Robber Screen from Bee Smart has gotten the ultimate upgrade! Keep robbers (bees who invade another hive and steal honey) out with a new and improved robber screen that can also serve as an entrance reducer, ventilated moving screen, and mouse guard! Made with UV-treated technopolymer, the robber screen works with 8- or 10-frame wooden equipment. No tools required to install, just use the push pins provided with the screen to set up quickly and easily.

How does this robber screen work?

Robbers attempt to enter a hive by flying towards the smell of ripening honey. To prevent them from entering your hive, this improved design focuses hive odors at the screen’s ventilation holes to attract robber bees, making them unable to find the real entrance door that the beekeeper has opened, and that the resident bees have learned to use. (We recommend using one of the top openings). Behind the screen, resident bees leave the entrance and crawl up the hive front to exit through one of two slots in the top. When returning, they re-enter the hive through the same open door.

Notes:
Install your robber screen when the bees are in for the day, either early in the morning or late in the evening. This will allow resident bees to learn the new entrance as they leave, and not trap them outside the colony.

It is always best to add screens before robbing gets started. A colony can have all its stores removed very quickly once robbing gets started.

This screen may leave an unwanted gap when used with hives that don’t have flat box fronts, like the Lyson 8/9 frame hive. For these hives, an extra strip of wood may need to be added to the hive so the robbing screen can create a seal against the hive.
