Interior storage for divider boards
We build and sell two different versions of this hive design. The basic version (shown) features a cabinet built using 3/4 inch plywood. While that is good, all wood tends to move, cup, bow or warp over time, sometimes even as the hive is being assembled! We now are offering cabinet upgrades made from hardwood, giving the hives even greated rigidity and a more polished look. The cabinet is constructed from rough-cut lumber, jointed and planed for a polished look and feel. This adds additional weight (and expense) to the hive, so consider this when choosing your options. We also offer the same option when ordering AZ hive frames - standard pine/fir frames or heavier hardwood frames that can hold up better over time. As with anything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. I would highly recommend the hardwood upgrade if you are looking for greater esthetic appeal or durability over the long haul.
As part of our continuous process improvement, we've retooled the design of this hive. All body pieces are precision cut by CNC technology using an updated CAD design that allows for accurate and repeatable precision, meaning bee spaces and frames positioning are to spec, divider boards have proper clearance, and back retaining screens, doors and dividers are all interchangeable between hives of this design.
As one of the only commercial builders of these artisan hives on the West Coast, I can attest that the benefits of this design are enormous and take much of the pain out of beekeeping. These cabinet hives open to the inside of a structure (barn, outbuilding, etc.) for easy, comfortable maintenance. These hives hold 33 frames as well (available separately), giving you ample room for colony growth and honey production!

IMPORTANT: These are custom builds, made to order. Talk to me about lead time and how many orders we are currently building so you have a good estimate of when your hive will be ready.
ADDITIONALLY: If possible, wait until fall or even winter to order for the next season. That is usually a slower time of year for us when we typically work on large projects like these. Waiting until Spring means you may face a very long lead time to take delivery of your hive(s). Also, taking possession during winter allows you more time to become familiar with the hive and how to use it properly, boosting your chances of early success! Discounts may be available during that time, as well.
