How to use (opens in separate window)

If you are anything like me, clearing bees from the frames is the most unpleasant part of harvesting honey. Fighting off tens of thousands of bees protecting the hive's brood and food is no Sunday picnic, especially in the dog days of summer.

A bee escape board takes most of the misery out of that task, especially when accompanied by a fume board. Simply place the escape beneath the honey super you wish to clear (triangle side down) and most all of the bees will make their way down into the chamber below, leaving your honey super nearly bee free! Coupling it with a fume board will speed up the process, making it a job that can be done in minutes!

One note of caution - don't leave the bee escape on too long (more than a day) - after a while, the bees can figure out how to get back in. The gentleman in the video leaves it on for several days but that's not generally recommended.

These hand-built escape boards are a valuable tool to add to your beekeeping equipment inventory.
