The March 21 class is full. We are adding a SECOND CLASS at 10 a.m. on March 22. Act now before it fills up, too! If you purchase a seat it is for MARCH 22 (Sunday)
Kitsap Beekeeping will offer a BEGINNER'S BEEKEEPING CLASS at 10 a.m. on March 22, 2026 at our shop in Port Orchard, Washington. Cost is $25 per person which is then given back to you as store credit for any purchases you may need to make at the event or during the upcoming beekeeping season! The class will run about two hours and you are welcome to stay longer for a group or individual question-and-answer. My goal is that you not leave with unanswered questions.
Purchase your reservation today as slots are limited!
AGENDA (Subject to change):
- Brief introductions
- A brief high-level overview of beekeeping through the seasons including where to get help or mentorships on your beekeeping journey.
- Responsible beekeeping - neighborhood concerns, hive placement, etc.
- A look at a hive setup and how to use it
- How to install bees - whether from package or a nuc
- Demonstration of beekeeping gear (hive suits, hive tools, smoker, etc.) and how to properly use each
- MITES, PESTS and natural dangers to your hive
- SWARMS - How to know if your hive is about to swarm and what to do if it does
- Will you get honey your first year, and how to harvest it (we may have a hands-on harvesting/extracting class if there is a demand. This class would be very limited in size so if you are interested in participating, please let me know).
- A high-level view of overwintering. (We will have a more indepth class prior to next winter specifically about keeping your bees alive through winter)
- Questions, discussion, shared experiences.
Stay as long as you like after the class to speak with me about any concerns or questions you may have. Our last overwintering class generated some great discussion that was entertaining and informative, so let's do this!
Bottled water will be provided.
If you are an experienced beekeeper of five years or more and would like to participate, please let me know and you will be encouraged to participate at no charge. Same if you are an officer of a local beekeeping club.
This is a RAIN OR SHINE event. We do have a large covered area but please bring whatever apparel you need to stay comfortable if there is inclement weather. If you wish to be seated, PLEASE BRING A CAMPING CHAIR WITH YOU. Beekeepers have to work in all kinds of weather, so this will be good practice. But fingers crossed for good weather!
WE ASK THAT YOU PARK ON THE STREET. It's a long street with parking on each side, just please leave room for neighbors to get through. Thank you!

And now for the unfortunate sucky part: All in-person and online classes and workshops will now be subject to sales tax for people located in Washington State.
