This uncapping fork is AMAZING! Sure, you can find cheaper ones, but they have very thin tines that are prone to bending out of shape quickly. This product is well-built, with tines as thick as what you'd find on a higher-quality dinner fork. And they are SHARP! When the UPS delivered 50 of these to me to sell in this store, some of them had poked through the cardboard box! This quality fork will last you many, many years of hard use and I would love to hear back from some of you who buy and use it.

Everyone has a favorite method of uncapping honey. Some use an electric heated knife. I know I've done that in the past but for the past several years, I've been using an uncapping roller - an identical one to what I sell on this site.

Last season, a friend showed me how he does it using an uncapping fork. I was impressed and knew I had to get one.

There are pros and cons to using the roller vs. the uncapping fork. The roller is excellent at removing the caps but sometimes, the cappings and honey get stuck up in the pins and then it starts rolling out big globs of foundation and honey. I've found that stopping every now and then to quickly clean out between the pins solves that problem. And it's still my preferred way.

What I like about the fork is that it can be far more precise (depending on how you use it) and it doesn't tear up the foundation as much. If you want to go all Schwarzenegger on it, suit yourself. If you want to go at it more gently, you can do more minimal damage to the drawn comb, but extraction can be a little more difficult if you are not careful to make sure all the caps are opened. To clean it, just quickly wipe it on a rag or the edge of your collection tray and you are good to go.

This season, I'm going to uncap with both, the fork and the roller depending on the cap thickness and just gut instinct. I certainly would not be without both items in my beekeeping toolkit.
